LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Tim Zelikovsky started a new streak with a straight-set win at No. 6 singles, but Loyola Marymount prevailed 6-1 on Thursday as the Bucknell men's tennis team concluded its Spring Break trip to the West Coast.
Now 7-4 on the season, Bucknell went 1-2 in California, beating Westmont 5-2 and dropping a tight 4-3 verdict to UC Riverside before taking on LMU.
Zelikovsky saw his 10-match winning streak come to an end on Wednesday in Riverside, but he got back on track with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Inig Diaz Ibarguengoitia at No. 6 singles. Zelikovsky is now 19-3 on the season, and with 61 career victories he broke a tie with Hall-of-Famer Ed Hess and moved into ninth place on Bucknell's all-time chart.
A tight 7-5 decision at No. 1 helped Loyola Marymount (6-4) win the doubles point to start the afternoon.
In singles, Arthur Pantino at No. 1 and Toky Ranaivo at No. 3 both won their first sets in tiebreakers and went on to post victories, with Ranaivo's win clinching the match. Adam Stavrakas won his first set from Yassine Smiej at No. 2 singles, but Smiej took the second and then won a third-set super tiebreaker 10-6.
