Men’s Tennis Downs Siena, 6-1

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The Bucknell men's tennis team rebounded nicely from its first loss of the spring with a 6-1 victory over Siena on Sunday morning at Binghamton's Lane-Starke Tennis Center. Amar Tahirovic led the way with convincing wins at both No. 1 singles and doubles, and Oscar Bain Moreno de Vega was also a two-time winner.
Bucknell won the doubles point with runaway 6-1 wins at both No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Tahirovic teamed with Brendan McDonald for the win over Oscar Martinez and Duarte Melo on Court 1, and Bain and Adam Stavrakas downed Dylan Breen and Zino Varouhas-Poole at No. 2.
Bucknell won five of the six singles matches, four of them coming in straight sets. Tahirovic beat Varouhas-Poole 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, and the Bison also received straight-set wins from Bain at No. 3, Tim Zelikovsky at No. 5, and freshman Will Robinson at No. 6.
Freshman Liam Kilmer came back from a set down to defeat Duarte Melo at No. 4 singles, rolling to a 10-1 win in the third-set super tiebreaker.
Siena's lone point came from Martinez, who was a 6-3, 6-2 winner over Stavrakas at second singles.
Now 2-1 on the season, Bucknell is back in action next Saturday at Rider at 5 p.m.
