
Women's Swim & Dive Posts Strong Showing at Navy Invite

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Bucknell women's swimming & diving team logged 18 top-three finishes and posted two program top-10 times in the team's final tune-up before the Patriot League Championships, which will also take place at Lejeune Hall in Annapolis Feb. 21-24.
Results
Esme Hunter and Kate Handley both earned spots in the record book, and both finished atop the field in their respective races. Hunter placed first in the 200 IM with a 2:03.34, which places her 10th in school history in the event. She's the second Bison to record a top-10 time in the event this season.
Kate Handley's 2:18.02 in the 200 breaststroke places her seventh in the record book. The first-year Bison previously set the 100 breaststroke standard this season. Handley led a herd of Bison that went 1-2-3 in the 200 breaststroke. She was followed by fellow rookie Kelly Byrne (2:20.05) in second and junior Skye Sunderhauf (2:20.48) in third.
Virginia Hastings put together an excellent day with wins in the 500 freestyle (4:57.05) and the 400 IM (4:26.44). Fellow first-year Sydney Dettmann also earned a top finish in the 200 freestyle with a 1:50.92. Hunter followed close behind in the second with a 1:51.02.
Rounding out the first-place finishers were Kendall Luecke in the 200 backstroke (2:05.06) and Kyla Kelly in the 100 IM (57.32).
While Navy placed first in the 200 butterfly, Bucknell's Rylie Giles, Samantha Benzija and Kelly followed in second, third and fourth place.
Meghan Catherwood posted the best showing of the day on the boards for Bucknell, placing second in the 3-meter dive with a 258.35.
The Navy Invite was attended by American, Lafayette, Navy, Lehigh and Shippensburg.
Bucknell is off the next two weekends while it prepares for the league championships. The four-day meet begins on Wednesday, Feb. 21.
