
Women's Swim & Dive Collects Bronze Medal on Opening Day of PL Championships

UPDATE: The disqualification of Army's 800 freestyle relay was overturned, resulting in a first-place finish for the Black Knights. Bucknell's 800 freestyle relay team's finish was updated from third place to fourth place.
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Reggie Frias placed third in the 3-meter dive, and Bucknell's 800 freestyle relay team added 52 points with a fourth-place finish.
The Bison totaled 167 points on Wednesday and sit behind third-place Army (176) second-place Navy (201) and first-place Boston U. (212).
Frias earned her spot in the 3-meter A finals by placing fifth in the preliminaries earlier in the day, and she shined Wednesday evening to earn her first medal. Her score of 290.70 ranks second in program history behind only Katie Hetherington's 300.55 set in 2013. It was Frias' second time earning a spot in the A finals after she placed fifth as a rookie in 2022.
Frias was narrowly edged by Boston's silver-medalist Sumi Cameron (292.70) and gold-medalist Sophia Souza (296.0). She contributed 27 points towards the Bison effort with her performance.
Bucknell's 800 freestyle relay team of Virginia Hastings, Rylie Giles, Caroline McGann and Sydney Dettmann registered a 7:19.96 to place fourth. The time ranks fifth in the Bucknell record book. Touching the wall ahead of them was third-place Navy (7:17.27) and second-place Lehigh (7:16.09) and first-place Army (7:10.60).
Bucknell's 200 medley relay team of Esme Hunter, Hanna Bingley, Samantha Benzija and Kayla Lichtner added 46 more points by placing seventh in 1:42.43, which ranks fourth all-time in program history.
Frias was not the only Bison with a strong showing on the boards. Meghan Catherwood finished atop the B finals to score 20 points with a 270.0. It was the fifth-best score overall in the finals. Natalie Pennmann recorded a 250.45 for 12th place.
The Patriot League Championships resume at Lejeune Hall on Thursday at 10 a.m.
