Women's Tennis Defeats Le Moyne 6-1 to Complete 2-0 Weekend

SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Bucknell women's tennis team defeated Le Moyne 6-1 at the Central PA Tennis Center on Sunday to wrap up a 2-0 weekend. The Bison swept the doubles point and took five of six in singles in the decisive victory. Bucknell defeated Villanova 4-3 on Saturday, and it concludes its five-dual homestand with a 4-1 record.
Bucknell earned wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles for a second day in a row, and Whitney King and Abby Platt bounced back from a loss yesterday and defeated Le Moyne's top doubles team on Sunday to secure the sweep and the first point of the dual. King and Platt posted a 6-1 decision to improve to a team-best 15 wins. Tyne Miller and Anna Lajos won at second doubles, and Madi Sebulsky joined Caroline Marcus in a 6-4 victory at third doubles.
Bucknell won the first five singles points in a row before the Dolphins were able to pick up a victory on court five to end the match. Four Bison won in straight sets. King defeated Paula Casares 6-0, 6-1 at first singles, Lajos defeated Lila Raiss 6-3, 6-3 at second singles, Platt won 6-3, 6-0 over Alicia Alvarez at third singles, and Tori Allen defeated Fiona Pepper 6-2, 6-4 at six singles.
Miller, who clinched Saturday's match for the Bison, won in three sets on Sunday. She bounced back from a 6-4 loss in the opening frame and won 6-4 in the second set and 10-1 in the third to defeat Isabella Barona. Jaycie Mair battled in a narrow three-set loss on court 5.
The Bison, who started the season 1-5, improved to 5-6 with the victory over Le Moyne.
Bucknell hits the road next weekend for the first time since Feb. 3. The Bison face Skidmore in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. on Saturday, March 2, and Siena in Loudonville, N.Y. on Sunday, March 3.
