Women's Tennis Posts 5-4 Road Win at Skidmore

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Bucknell women's tennis team earned its third consecutive victory and its fifth of the last six duals when it defeated Skidmore 5-4 on the road Saturday afternoon. Bucknell claimed the top three singles matches and won two of three in doubles play against the Thoroughbreds.
Anna Lajos earned the clinching win at court two singles to give the Bison a commanding 5-1 advantage over the reigning Liberty League champions. Lajos also earned a doubles victory playing alongside Mirra Manolov. Whitney King and Abby Platt also collected wins in both singles and doubles.
King and Platt posted the first point of the day for the Bison, defeating Grace Truong and Ella Provost 6-4 at court one doubles. King and Platt improved to 16-3 on the season. Lajos and Manolov followed with a hard-fought 7-6 (7-2) win on court two over Katie Wong and Konika Dhull. It was Manolov's first dual doubles appearance of the season. The Thoroughbreds earned a point at third doubles, as the Bison entered singles play with a 3-1 advantage in the dual.
All three Bison singles wins came in succession. King knocked off Dhull by a 6-3, 6-1 decision, Platt defeated Wong 6-3, 6-2, and Lajos won 6-3, 7-6 (3) over Truong. Platt's win was her team-leading 14th of the season, and she's been victorious in each of the three consecutive team wins. King and Lajos have now both won 12 singles matches each.
Skidmore won three in a row at No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles to end the day. Madi Sebulsky forced three sets against Beilynn Geiss at six singles after winning 6-1 in the opening frame, but the Thoroughbred prevailed.
Bucknell, now 6-6 on the season, remains on the road to face Siena in Latham, N.Y. at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 3.
