Women's Tennis Falls to Delaware to Conclude 1-1 Weekend

SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Bucknell women's tennis team wrapped up a 1-1 weekend with a 7-0 loss to Delaware at the Central PA Tennis Center. The Bison played the Blue Hens close in several spots, but Delaware ultimately swept the doubles point and won each singles matchup in straight sets.
Whitney King and Abby Platt suffered just their second doubles loss of the season at first doubles, falling 6-4 to Alex Staiculescu and Paulina Jurkowska. Before that, 2023 All-CAA selection Alina Vasilenko and Katie Dollens defeated Tyne Miller and Anna Lajos on court two by a 6-3 margin to clinch the doubles point.
King and Lajos were the final Bison holdouts in singles play. Both sat tied at 5-all in their respective sets before being edged on courts one and two. King fell 7-5, 6-1 to Slade Coetzee, and Lajos suffered a 6-4, 7-5 decision to Vasilenko.
Abby Platt was the third Bison to win at least four games in a set against the Blue Hens, but she was defeated by Staiculescu on court three, 6-3, 6-4.
Bucknell moved to 3-6 on the season after having won its last two against Saint Francis and Seton Hall. The Bison defeated the Pirates 4-3 at the Central PA Tennis Center on Saturday.
Looking ahead, Bucknell is back at home next weekend to face Villanova and Le Moyne. The Bison play host to the Wildcats at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24, and to the Dolphins at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 25.
