Women's 200 Free Finals
GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Bucknell's Chris Kopac and Clara Renner wrapped up their week at the prestigious Toyota U.S. Open Championships on Friday. Both competed in the 200-yard freestyle, with Renner making it to the evening finals session for the second straight day. Twenty-four hours after qualifying for the A Final in the 500 free, the Bison freshman was the runner-up in the B Final in the 200.
Renner finished 13th in the morning prelims with a time of 1:50.42, which slotted her into the B Final. She was just under that pace in the evening with a 1:50.20, and that time was just six-tenths behind Anna Schnowske of the 757 Swim Club. Renner just barely out-touched Penn State's Morgan Moore and West Virginia's Gabriela Martin for the No. 2 spot. Renner, whose Bucknell PR of 1:49.11 in the 200 free already ranks fourth in team history, placed sixth in the 500 free on Thursday night. Georgia commit Kennedi Dobson won the 500 free and 200 IM on Thursday, and she made it a triple by taking the 200 free on Friday in 1:44.07, just ahead of Texas A&M's Chloe Stepanek.
Kopac posted a time of 1:40.18 in the 200 free prelims, which put him in 37th place. The senior captain set the school record in the 200 with a 1:35.72 at last year's Patriot League Championships.
The remainder of the Bison men's and women's swimming and diving teams will now prep for their winter training trip after final exams, and the next official competition will be on Friday, Jan. 10 at La Salle. The next home meet is one day later against Army West Point at 1 p.m.
