WOMEN'S 500 FREE A FINAL RESULTS
GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Bucknell freshman Clara Renner qualified for the A Final and finished in sixth place in a star-studded lineup in the 500-yard freestyle at the Toyota U.S. Open Championships on Thursday evening. Renner qualified for the A Final with a morning prelim time of 4:52.91, and she practically duplicated that mark with a 4:52.97 in the final.
Senior Chris Kopac is also representing the Bucknell men's swimming and diving team in Greensboro, and he placed 31st in the 500 free prelims on Thursday morning.
Renner has already made quite a splash in her first month of collegiate swimming at Bucknell, and her best time 500 free time of 4:48.55 makes her the third-fastest competitor in team history in that event. At the U.S. Open, she was competing in an A Final against high-level competition. Kennedi Dobson, a 17-year-old Georgia commit who swims with Eastern Express in New Jersey, won the race in 4:36.87, which is one of the top times in the nation in 2024. Former Cal-Berkeley All-American Rachel Klinker was second in 4:43.87, and 2024 Mountain West Conference Most Outstanding Swimmer Erin Dawson of Colorado State was third in 4:49.54. Penn State's Morgan Moore, and another Georgia recruit Brooke Bennett snuck in just ahead of Renner, and USC commit Rylee Hutchinson and reigning Horizon League Swimmer of the Year Emmaleigh Zietlow of IU Indy took seventh and eighth.Â
Renner and Kopac have more events to come at the Toyota U.S. Open, which runs through Saturday at the Greensboro Aquatics Center.  Television coverage is available throughout the meet on Peacock, CNBC, and NBC, with NBC Olympic announcers Jason Knapp and Rowdy Gaines calling the action. All sessions are streaming on the USA Swimming Network.
