LEWISBURG, Pa. – Chris Kopac and Clara Renner, two of the stars of the Bucknell men's and women's swimming and diving teams, will represent the Bison this week at the prestigious Toyota U.S. Open meet at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, N.C.
The meet runs from Wednesday through Saturday, although Kopac and Renner will hit the water for the first time on Thursday. Heats begin at 9 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m. Television coverage is available throughout the week on Peacock, CNBC, and NBC, and all sessions will stream on the USA Swimming Network.
Kopac and Renner are both off to outstanding starts to the 2024-25 season. Kopac, a senior, already has five individual events wins in four meets this fall. He won the 100 and 200-yard freestyles in a dual against Boston University; he took the 100 breaststroke and 400 individual medley at the Bucknell Fall Invitational, and he won the 500 free in a quad meet against Patriot League rivals Navy, American, and Lafayette. Last week at the six-team Bucknell Invitational, Kopac placed fourth in the 500 and 1650 freestyles and fifth in the 200 free, setting season bests in each event.
Meanwhile Renner has exploded onto the collegiate scene as a freshman for the Bison women, posting eight individual event wins while placing her name on Bucknell top-10 lists in seven individual events along with the 800 free relay. Renner swept all three of her races against Boston University and at the quad meet with Navy, American, and Lafayette, which led to her receiving Patriot League swimmer of the meet honors. Last time out at the seven-team Bucknell Invitational, Renner was runner-up to reigning Big East Swimmer of the Year Allie Waggoner of Seton Hall in the 500 free, 1650 free, and 400 IM, and she swam the leadoff leg of the winning 800 free relay.
The remainder of the Bison men's and women's swimming and diving teams will now prep for their winter training trip after final exams, and the next official competition will be on Friday, Jan. 10 at La Salle. The next home meet is one day later against Army West Point at 1 p.m.
