LEWISBURG, Pa.- The Bucknell women's track & field program brought home two weekly awards Tuesday when the league office announced Justley Sharp won Women's Field Athlete of the Week and Madison Fowler earned Women's Rookie of the Week for their historic performances at the Bison Opener.
Sharp dominated the throwing scene as a freshman obtaining school records in the discus and outdoor shot put. She opened her sophomore campaign by setting her third school record with her 50-8.25 throw in the indoor shot put. The mark won the event by nearly seven feet. Former teammate Siobhan O'Sullivan owned the previous best mark with her 49-10 throw in 2023. Sharp now has the most school records among active Bison.
Donner on Sharp: "After an incredible freshman year, Sharp is at a whole new level starting her sophomore year and we are very excited about where she can take it."
Fowler made her collegiate debut in style winning the weight throw and grabbing third in the shot put. The Missouri native entered the final round trailing two Penn State throwers but unleashed a 57-4.75 throw to seize the lead. The mark ranks third in Bucknell history – a huge coup for the rookie thrower. Her third-place finish (42-6.25) in the shot put came behind Bucknell veterans Sharp and Christine Ajao.
Donner on Fowler: "Maddy had a little experience throwing the weight in high school but to have a four-foot improvement and winning the event on her last throw and beating the two Penn State throwers shows that she thrives on pressure. She has a high ceiling for improvement and we are excited about her future."
The Bison will refuel during finals and winter break with a return to action next month at the Nittany Lion Challenge on Jan. 18.
