Domsohn’s Late Goal Gives Men’s Soccer 1-1 Draw at Binghamton

VESTAL, N.Y. – Only 90 seconds after re-entering the game off the bench, Zane Domsohn scored a dramatic 83rd-minute equalizer to help the Bucknell men's soccer team salvage a 1-1 draw at Binghamton on Tuesday night. The Bison are now 4-4-3 on the season after sharing the points with the Bearcats (6-5-2) in a hard-fought non-league match.
Domsohn earned his first start of the season in this one, and head coach Dave Brandt re-inserted him as part of a triple change with about nine minutes to play and the Bison down 1-0. The junior forward made the move look good as he scored a nifty goal on the back end of a quick counter.
The sequence started with goalkeeper Freddie Lapworth racing well outside his box to clear away a potential through ball. Cade Whitmire was fouled while receiving Lapworth's boot near midfield, and Whitmire played a quick restart to spring Drew Roskos down the right flank. Roskos centered for Domsohn, who did well to control the ball while spinning away from a Bearcats defender and the goalkeeper, and then he stuffed the shot through both of them for his first goal of the season and seventh of his career.
Domsohn nearly won it with just over a minute remaining, but his header off a Waldemar Kattrup service just missed wide of the right post.
Binghamton's goal came on a 56th-minute penalty kick by Lucas Constante, who took the spot kick himself after drawing a foul in the box.
Lapworth was otherwise outstanding. On a night when Binghamton came out of the gates hot and got behind the Bison back line on several occasions, Lapworth finished with a season-high eight saves. He denied Marcus Nahim on a break just over two minutes into the game, and in the first minute of the second half he stopped D.T. Megliola 1v1.
Roskos, who scored a late equalizer in Saturday's 2-2 draw with Lehigh, had two good looks in the second half on back-post headers off services from David Krumov, but one went wide and one was saved by Dylan McDermott. Roskos came off the bench and played 66 minutes, and he led all players with four shot attempts. The assist on Domsohn's goal was the first of his career.
McDermott tallied seven saves as Bucknell finished with a 15-13 shot advantage.
"This was a tough non-conference game to play mid-week," said Brandt. "The guys kept hanging in there and were able to come from behind again. These non-conference games between two important league games are never easy, especially on the road, and that resolve and toughness are going to be needed with so many big games coming up."
The Bison return to Patriot League play with a road match at defending champion Boston University on Saturday at 1 p.m. Bucknell and Colgate are tied for the league lead with eight points from 2-0-2 records.

Here's a look at Domsohn's 83rd-minute equalizer. It started with a heads up play by Freddie coming well outside of the box to clear a ball. Then Whitmire sprung Roskos with a quick restart, and Zane with a great first touch before stuffing it through. @PatriotLeagueHQ | @ESPN pic.twitter.com/J1c3NaJYWW
