Men's Soccer Drops 1-0 Decision at Boston University
10/12/2024 5:20:00 PM | Men's Soccer
BOSTON, Mass.- The Bucknell Bison men's soccer team (4-5-3, 2-1-2 Patriot) dropped its first conference match of 2024 in a 1-0 loss to the Boston University Terriers (2-3-8, 2-1-2 Patriot) on Saturday afternoon. The Bison played even with the home team before a goal in the 71st minute gave the Beantown squad the victory and tied the Terriers with Bucknell and Colgate for second place in the Patriot League standings.Â
The match was perfect for those denizens who enjoy defensive soccer. Bucknell finished up with eight shots to Boston's nine. The Bison struggled to create chances in the first half, only producing one shot attempt. The second half witnessed more creativity and opportunity with seven shot attempts but none found the net, despite Bucknell earning seven corner kicks.Â
The game appeared headed for a typical Boston tie, as the Terriers have been fond of that outcome with eight such occasions until Boston's Andrea Di Blasio received a pass from Diego Rived and sent the ball flying past Bucknell's keeper Freddie Lapworth. The Terriers's goal came on a Boston counterattack and tucked inside the left post.Â
The Bison fought back hard and fired five shots at the Terriers. Two shots were saved, two were blocked, and one flew wide. The Bison's final opportunity received in the 88th minute off a corner kick. Nothing came from the chance and the Terriers held on for the 1-0 victory.Â
The third leg of Bucknell's four-game road stretch continues with a trip to St. Bonaventure this Tuesday at 6 p.m. The Bison have gone 0-2-2 since defeating American on Sept. 28 and will look to regain momentum against the Bonnies.Â
