Men’s Tennis Unbeaten on Day One of Patriot League ITA Conference Masters Qualifier

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Amar Tahirovic and Adam Stavrakas logged one-sided singles wins, and Tahirovic teamed with Brendan McDonald for a doubles victory as the Bucknell men's tennis contingent had an unbeaten opening day at the Patriot League qualifying tournament for the ITA Conference Masters.
Tahirovic, who is the No. 1 seed in both singles and doubles, advanced to the singles quarterfinals with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Lehigh's Sean Jaeger. He will next face Army's Alan Ton on Saturday morning.
Stavrakas, the No. 4 seed, was even more dominant in a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Navy's Jeffrey Etterbeek. Stavrakas will take on Lehigh's Marc Blekhman in the quarters on Saturday.
The doubles competition started on Friday with the quarterfinal round, and Tahirovic and McDonald posted a 6-2 win over the Holy Cross tandem of Camilo Illanes and Will Donnelly. They will face Army's Jack Hanna and Vishnu Bodavula on Saturday afternoon. Navy and Lehigh will battle in the other doubles semifinal.
This weekend's singles and doubles champions will qualify for the ITA Conference Masters Championships in Rome, Ga., next month.
