Men’s Tennis Still Perfect at Patriot League ITA Masters Qualifier

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Bucknell men's tennis team remained unbeaten in singles and doubles play at the Patriot League qualifier for the ITA Conference Masters Championships, and the Bison are guaranteed to have at least one representative in Rome, Ga., as Amar Tahirovic and Adam Stavrakas both won twice on Saturday to reach the singles final.
Tahirovic, the No. 1 seed, was dominant on day two, dropping only one game in his two singles wins. He downed Army's Alan Ton 6-1, 6-0 in the quarterfinal round and then whitewashed Colgate's Josh Israel 6-0, 6-0 in the semis.
Fourth-seeded Stavrakas also won twice in straight sets, defeating Lehigh's Marc Blekhman 6-3, 6-1 and Army's No. 2 seed Jackson Armistead 6-4, 6-3.
Tahirovic and Stavrakas are slated to play in the final on Sunday at 11 a.m., but first Tahirovic will be looking to advance in doubles as well. He and Brendan McDonald outlasted Army's Vishnu Bodavula and Jack Hanna 7-6 (11-9 in the tiebreaker) to reach the doubles final. They will play Lehigh's Blekhman and Sean Jaeger on Sunday at 9 a.m.
