Bison Tennis Teams Head to West Point for Patriot League ITA Masters Qualifier

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell men's and women's teams will send their top players to West Point this weekend for the inaugural Patriot League ITA Conference Masters qualifying tournaments. All nine Patriot League tennis programs will have representatives in action, with the men's and women's singles and doubles champions qualifying for the ITA Conference Masters Championships in Rome, Ga., on Nov. 7-10.
Amar Tahirovic, who just last week advanced to the Round of 16 in singles at the ITA Northeast Regional in Philadelphia, is the No. 1 seed in the men's singles draw at the Patriot League event. He will face Lehigh's Sean Jaeger in the Round of 16 at West Point. Tahirovic will also play doubles with Brendan McDonald, and that top-seeded duo will start with Holy Cross' Camilo Illanes and Will Donnelly in the quarterfinals.
Adam Stavrakas, who also advanced to the main draw at ITA Regionals last week, is the No. 4 seed in singles this weekend and will face Navy's Jeffrey Etterbeek in his first match.
Whitney King and Abby Platt will be representing the Bison on the women's side of the tournament. King is the No. 4 seed in singles and will first face either Lehigh's Hamsa Javagal or Holy Cross' Ashley Zilora. Platt will start in the Round of 32 against Alyssa Perdomo of Lafayette.
King and Platt will also play doubles together, and their first match will be a quarterfinal round test against No. 2 seed Gabriella Mikaul and Uma Bakaiyte of Boston University.
The 2024 ITA Conference Masters Championship will have a draw size 32 singles players and 32 doubles teams, with each Division I conference represented. At this tournament, four players – the four semifinalists -- will automatically qualify for the NCAA Singles Championship. Meanwhile, three doubles teams – the champion, runner-up, and third-place finisher -- will automatically qualify for the NCAA Doubles Championship.
