Field Hockey's Four-Goal Flurry Flies Bison Past Colgate in 4-0 Rout

HAMILTON, N.Y.- The Bucknell Bison field hockey team (6-6, 3-1 Patriot) kept its offense firing on all cylinders with a 4-0 vanquishing of the Colgate Raiders (2-9, 0-3 Patriot) in Friday night action. Bucknell tallied two goals in both the second and third quarters to gain a crucial conference victory and kept its regular season title hopes alive.Â
Senior forward Lily Neilson achieved her second straight two-goal game when she scored twice in the second quarter. Neilson increased her career goal total to 53 moving her into a tie with Lafayette's Deanna DiCroce for fourth all-time in Patriot League history. Her 112 career points are one away from Holy Cross's Jenna Cook for tenth in PL history.Â
Fellow senior Tallulah Fuhs scored for the second straight game when she reopened the goal barrage in the third quarter. Junior defender Kira Leclercq did not add to her nation-leading nine defensive saves but she scored her fifth goal of the season off a penalty corner to round out the Bison offense.Â
Colgate was hapless against Bucknell's pressing defense and decisive offense. The Bison collected 19 shots and held Colgate to three, two of which came off penalty corner attempts. Sarah Althouse had a relatively quiet evening posting two saves and collecting her second clean sheet of 2024. It was Bucknell's first shutout win since defeating UMass Lowell 2-0.Â
After a modest first quarter with little attacking, Neilson began the scoring with pure poetry of motion. The forward gathered a pass from behind the midfield line, glided through the befuddled Raiders defense, entered into the circle, and sliced the ball past the goalkeeper for the 1-0 start.Â
Fuhs's goal came off a heads-up situation by the senior forward. Freshman Reese Czajkowski's shot was turned away by the Colgate keeper but Fuhs sought out the rebound and delivered a strike past the goalie for the field goal lead.Â
Leclercq continued her late-season goal surge by converting another penalty corner into a goal. The Preseason Defender of the Year sent a grass-sizzler past two Raiders after senior Hannah Guarente delivered a perfect insertion to junior Nicky Punt who divinely set the table for Leclercq. The 4-0 score held up as the final tally.Â
Bucknell heads to Cornell this Sunday for a non-conference clash with the Big Red. The game starts at 2 p.m. Cornell will be celebrating and they honor Bucknell's eight seniors.Â

Neilson struck again seven minutes later. The Raiders mishandled a simple pass at the top of the circle and Neilson was there to poach the sphere. She went past two desperate sticks and juked the goalkeeper out of position. The resulting tap-in was almost too easy for the experienced goal-scorer.ÂLILY DILLY!

Is there anything more beautiful than a Lily Neilson goal?
Watch her cut through the Raiders' defense and finish with a perfect slapshot! You need more than 11 players to stop her!
