Women's Swim & Dive Set for Dual Action at Army Saturday, Home vs. La Salle Sunday

Bucknell at a Glance
• Bucknell returns to the pool for the first time in 2024 as it begins its final stretch of dual meets leading into the Patriot League Championships. Bucknell goes on the road to face Army in Patriot League dual action on Saturday before returning to Lewisburg to host La Salle for its only non-league dual of the season on Sunday. Both events will be streamed on ESPN+.
• The Bison last competed during the first weekend of December, where they finished second out of seven teams at the Bucknell Invite. The Bison finished top three in five events throughout the three-day meet, and five registered new program top-10 times. Most notably, first-year Kate Handley broke the school's 100 breaststroke record with a 1:02.47.
• Other program top-10 marks from the Bucknell Invite included: Sydney Dettmann in the 200 butterfly (3rd, 2:01.72), Hanna Bingley in the 100 breaststroke (4th, 1:03.08), Samantha Benzija in the 100 butterfly (8th, 55.87) and Kyla Kelly in the 200 IM (8th, 2:03.20).
• Meghan Catherwood is Bucknell's lone Patriot League weekly award winner this season, earning Female Diver of the Week honors on Oct. 24 after taking second place in the 2-meter dive and third in the 1-meter at the team's fall invitational.
• Entering this weekend, Bucknell is 39-8 in dual meets since the start of the 2018-19 campaign, including a 31-8 mark in Patriot League action.
• Bucknell finished the 2022-23 season 6-2 (5-2 PL) and placed third at the Patriot League Championships with 540.5 points. The Bison went on to take second at the ECAC Championships, and Catherwood competed at the 2023 NCAA Zone Diving Championships.
• Bucknell returned three All-Patriot League honorees this season: Abby Doss (2023 2nd Team, 2022 1st Team), Esme Hunter (2022 & 2023 2nd Team), and Caroline McGann (2023 2nd Team).
• The Bison lost three-time All-Patriot League honoree and six-time Patriot League medalist Sabrina Vumbacco as well as three-time All-Patriot League honoree and one-time Patriot League medalist Catherine Craig to graduation last spring.
• Along with Handley, Abby Doss is Bucknell's other school-record holder on the roster. She set the 200 breaststroke standard at the 2021 Bucknell Invite.
• Seniors Hunter, Kayla Lichtner and Grace Kujawski are serving as team captains this season.
• Bucknell welcomed nine newcomers to the roster this season.
Scouting Army
• Army is 2-1 (1-1 PL) following a Dec. 7 loss at Navy (153-147). Its wins have come over Boston U. and St. Bonaventure. The Black Knights will also host Penn State on Friday before facing off against the Bison on Saturday.
• The Black Knights returned 24 of 26 letterwinners from last season, including five First Team All-Patriot League honorees and three Second Team All-League members.
• Army finished runner-up at the 2023 Patriot League Championships. 2023 First Team All-Patriot Leaguer Aurelie Migault took first place in the 100 breaststroke and second in the 200 breaststroke. She was also part of Army's first-place 400 medley relay team.
• Bucknell is 22-8 in the all-time series with Army, which dates back to 1981. Army won the 2023 meeting in Lewisburg, snapping Bucknell's four-dual win streak in the series. The Black Knights outscored the Bison 202.5-97.5, with Sabrina Vumbacco claiming the only two Bison wins in the 1000 and 500 freestyle.
Scouting La Salle
• La Salle is 2-2 on the season with dual wins over UMBC and Drexel. The Explorers are set to face Richmond on Thursday before visiting the Bison.
• La Salle went 4-5-1 (1-1 A10) in 2022-23 and placed eighth at the Atlantic 10 Championships. Standouts Gabby Herbreder, Toni Rafferty, Tori Fenn and Rosalia Marin Martinez return this season.
• Bucknell is 5-9 in all-time dual meets with the Explorers dating back to 1983. La Salle won the 2012 matchup 164-136. The Bison won four individual events, including the final three to cut into the deficit. Bucknell won the 2011 meeting 198-102. It was the first dual between the two schools since 1994.
• La Salle participated in last season's Bucknell Invitational and placed fifth out of eight teams, while Bucknell came in first.
A Look Ahead
• The Bison return to Kinney Natatorium on Saturday, Jan. 27 to host Lehigh for their second-to-last dual of the season. Bucknell will celebrate Senior Day prior to the meet and will recognize four men's swimmers as well as seven members of the women's team.
