BOSTON, Mass.- The Bucknell Bison field hockey team (5-6, 1-2 PL) lost 2-1 in double overtime to the Boston Terriers (4-5, 2-1 PL) on Saturday afternoon. The Bison could not replicate their double overtime win against Holy Cross. The game was marked by fierce defensive play and limited scoring opportunities.
Recap
Neither team advanced many offensive threats in the first period. Zoe Carlson-Pietraszek and Gianna Puorro each recorded a single shot to no avail. Boston did not post a single attempt.
In the second period, it was Bucknell's turn to go without a shot attempt. Boston notched the game's first penalty corner attempt, but the subsequent shot failed.
The game heated up in the third period. Carlson-Pietraszek put the Bison on the scoreboard a minute into the quarter with her fourth goal of the year. Nicky Punt assisted the play as Carlson-Pietraszek deposited the tally on a tip-in shot. The lead lasted only three minutes as Boston equalized with a sharp goal. Puorro tried another shot but was turned away.
Both teams had several shooting attempts in the fourth period but could not convert. Boston had the best chance with the clock winding down, but goalie Sarah Althouse made a sensational save to prevent the winning tally and send the game to overtime.
The first overtime period saw Bucknell have a Punt shot attempt blocked and a Hannah Guarente penalty corner go awry. Boston had two shot attempts in the final minute, but Althouse again prevented any scoring.
Boston won in the second overtime when their shot attempt went past the Bison defense, with the contest only three minutes away from a penalty shootout.
