LEWISBURG, Pa. – It was a busy Day 2 of the Bucknell Invitational tennis tournament on Saturday, and it was another successful one for the Bison women. In two rounds of doubles play and one round of singles action, Bucknell went 8-2 in both disciplines on the heels of an 8-2 day in singles on Friday.
In doubles action, the Bucknell tandems of Whitney King/Abby Platt, Caroline Marcus/Anna Lajos, Kate Novak/Jaycie Mair, and Madi Sebulsky/Mirra Manolov all went 2-0. The closest match involved Sebulsky and Manolov, who outlasted Gretta Rhodes and Marie Discini of Saint Francis (Pa.) in a tiebreaker (7-4).
King and Platt blanked Mount St. Mary's Margherita Trolese and Sofia Kostirko, 6-0, and the Bison won four other doubles sets at 6-2.
It was more of the same in singles play, where the Bison dropped only one set in their eight wins. Platt beat SFU's Valeria Vinces 10-6 in a third-set super tiebreak, and Lajos needed a first-set tiebreak against Lafayette's Hanna Ganchi but won it 7-0.
Marcus and Manolov both won their matches 6-0, 6-0, and the freshmen Allen and Mair also won in impressive fashion. Allen was a 6-3, 6-3 winner over Mount St. Mary's Ryan McCarthy, and Mair ran past Samantha Quezada of SFU, 6-1, 6-1.
The Bucknell Invitational wraps up on Sunday with one more round each in singles and doubles.
