Field Hockey Opens 2023 Season with Loss to Drexel
8/25/2023 8:08:00 PM | Field Hockey
PHILADELPHIA, Pa.- The Bucknell field hockey team opened the 2023 season with a 4-0 defeat to the Drexel Dragons. The Philadelphia team scored three goals in the first stanza to glide to the win.Â
The Bison only trailed the Dragons 11-8 in shots and were tied 7-7 in penalty corners. However, Drexel made the most of its opportunities, while Bucknell could not find the back of the net despite some chances.Â
Drexel scored three minutes into the first quarter and tacked on another goal six minutes later for a quick 2-0 advantage.Â
The Bison attempted to rally and prevent any further scoring. The efforts were in vain as two minutes later witnessed another Drexel tally that effectively ended the game. The third goal spelled the end of Nora Frederick between the pipes and led to Sarah Althouse's collegiate debut.Â
Althouse displayed a veteran presence amid the chaos, recording four saves, including a diving save, and only yielding one goal over the final three quarters.Â
Drexel added its final goal in the second quarter when a Dragon corralled a loose ball that deflected off Althouse and slammed it home.Â
Bucknell had several shot chances in the third and fourth quarters, but the lack of conversions prevented any rally.Â

Welcome to the collegiate arena, Althouse! The freshman goalie enters between the pipes and makes a sensational sliding save!
