Bucknell at a Glance
- Two teams coming off dominant opening-night performances clash on Sunday when George Washington visits Emmitt Field for the first time.
- Bucknell's season opener could not have gone much better, as the Bison were stellar on both ends in a 4-0 win over a Saint Joseph's team that had a winning record in the Atlantic 10 last season. Four different goal-scorers put their name on the sheet, and Bucknell finished with a 23-6 shot advantage.
- Henna Andican got the Bison on the board in the 27th minute, and then Paige Temple, Teresa Deda, and Lea Tarzy all scored in a five-minute span to break it open in the second half.
- Tarzy's goal was the first of her career, and it came on her first touch of the night just seconds after entering the game in the 66th minute.
- Andican, Deda, and Temple all recorded a goal and an assist in the game. Deda's assist was the 21st of her career, putting her one behind Liz Woodrow for the No. 2 spot on Bucknell's career list.
- Andican was a menace all night for the Hawks' back line, finishing with a career-high eight shots, including five on frame.
- Goalkeeper Jenna Hall made three saves against Saint Joseph's en route to her 18th career solo shutout. She is now four behind Jessica Ratner for the Bucknell career record.
- The Bison are now 4-0-1 in their last five season openers.
- Bucknell used 23 players in the Saint Joseph's game, with freshmen Ashley Kozlowski, Julia Palitti, Riley Hayes, Lily Moraller, and Caitlyn Scott, along with sophomore Klio Kokolis all making their collegiate debuts. Kozlowski's 40-minute shift was the most among that group.
- Midfielders Reese Evans and Sydney Hess both made their first career starts.
- Bucknell is the two-time defending Patriot League champion. Last season, the second-seeded Bison won penalty-kick shootouts against Boston University and Army in the Patriot League Tournament, and then dropped a 1-0 overtime decision at Ohio State in the NCAA Tournament.
- Seniors Jenna Hall, Hannah Stuck, and Brooke Tracey are this year's team captains.
- Kelly Cook is in her ninth season as Bucknell's head coach, and she has led the Bison to four Patriot League championships in her first eight years. Cook owns a 72-55-19 (.558) overall record at Bucknell, including a 40-17-11 (.669) mark in Patriot League play. Cook knows the Patriot League very well, as she was a two-year captain and three-time Second Team All-Patriot League selection at Colgate, where she recorded 27 goals and 23 assists in her career. She ranked in the top 10 in program history in career points (77) and assists. As a junior in 2004, Cook (then Kelly Kuss) was named Patriot League Tournament MVP after leading the Raiders to the league title, and then her team knocked off Arizona in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, marking the first NCAA win in school and league history.
- Cook has two new assistant coaches in 2023, as former Clarion head coach Alexa Ream and goalkeepers coach PJ Steiner have joined the program.
- George Washington overwhelmed Delaware State 7-0 in its season opener at home on Thursday. Alana Beasley scored just 2:27 into the match, and the Revolutionaries tacked on six more while piling up a 41-12 shot advantage.
- Abby Caoile scored twice, while Beasley, Maggie Mockenhaupt, Maya Goudeseune, Lauren Prentice, and Alexa Meinen also found the net.
- Aoi Kataoka, who had two assists against Delaware State, made the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team last season.
- GW finished 7-5-6 overall and 2-5-3 in the Atlantic 10 a year ago. The Revolutionaries graduated their top goal-scorer in Rachel Sorkenn, who scored nine times last year to finish with 22 career goals.
- Head coach Michelle Demko is in her sixth season as George Washington's head coach. As a player, Demko was a two-year team captain at Maryland and had a stint with the U.S. Women's National Team as well as a successful pro career in Germany and in the WUSA.
- This will be just the second all-time meeting between Bucknell and George Washington and the first in Lewisburg.
- GW won 2-1 in Washington, D.C., on Sept. 15, 2019. Gabby Bair struck from long distance to tie the game at 1-1 in the 29th minute, but Maria Pareja answered less than four minutes later. Kaylee Donnelly recorded 10 saves in goal for the Bison.
- This is one of three Atlantic 10 opponents on the Bucknell schedule this fall. The Bison have already beaten Saint Joseph's, and they will visit La Salle on Sept. 3.
- Bucknell faces two stiff away tests next week with trips to No. 16 Georgetown on Thursday and No. 14 Pittsburgh on Sunday.
- Not only were both teams NCAA qualifiers last year, but they faced off in the second round in Tallahassee, Fla. The Panthers prevailed 2-1 before falling 3-0 to Florida State in the Sweet Sixteen two days later.
- The Bison earned their first-ever point against a ranked opponent last season with a 0-0 draw at No. 17 West Virginia.
