Women’s Soccer Dominant in 4-0 Season-Opening Win over Saint Joseph’s

Andican, Temple, and Deda all registered a goal and an assist as the Bison outshot the Hawks 23-6 while putting 12 attempts on target. Andican, a sophomore who moved into the starting striker role vacated by former Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year Rylee Donaldson, was a handful all night for the Saint Joseph's back line. She led all players with a career-high eight shots, five of which were on frame.
Led by reigning Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year Jenna Hall and a back four that returned intact from last year's title run, the Bison limited the Hawks to only a few half-chances in their end. Hall made three saves on the way to her 18th career shutout.
Right back Katie Schiano was also dangerous in the attack, as she forced a tough early save from Katie Cappelletti, put two more just over the bar, and then set up Bucknell's first goal of the night. Cappelletti took a free long free kick well outside her own box, and then got caught out of position as the Bison pinged the ball right back the other way. Hannah Stuck chested down the original service and then Schiano played a 50-yard ball over the Saint Joseph's back line and onto the foot of Andican, who maneuvered around the keeper at the top of the 18 and scored into the gaping net.
Despite a 13-2 shot advantage, Bucknell's lead was just 1-0 at the half as Cappelletti made good saves on Andican and Reese Evans. The Hawks were a bit brighter on the ball to start the second half, but just past the hour mark, the Bison broke it open.
Temple scored on a running header in the 61st minute, culminating a beautifully worked set piece with Deda spotting Meghan White wide on the left flank for the service in.
Just over two minutes later, Temple returned the favor to Deda after intercepting a distribution from Cappelletti. Temple did well to control the ball – she took three touches without it ever hitting the ground -- and slipped a nicely weighted pass into Deda, who only had the keeper to beat.Set piece perfection, with Paige Temple on the finishing end. #rayBucknell @PatriotLeagueTV | @ESPN pic.twitter.com/mZkD5vxGDb

Up 3-0, Bison coach Kelly Cook began to send on waves of substitutes, and Tarzy scored the goal of the night only seconds after entering the game. Andican's initial shot from a sharp angle on the left side was slapped away by the keeper, and Tarzy blasted a left-footed rocket off the bar and into the left side-netting. Tarzy, who is playing as a midfielder after three seasons as an outside back, pocketed her first career goal on her first touch of the campaign.
The Bison are right back at home on Sunday to face another Atlantic 10 side. George Washington is the guest at Emmitt Field starting at 1 p.m.Lea Tarzy subbed on in the 66th minute, and about 10 seconds later she did this 👀. The senior's first touch of the season resulted in her first career goal. #rayBucknell | #PLTop3@PatriotLeagueTV | @ESPN pic.twitter.com/0brZdVFRce
