LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee has selected its new Executive Board members for the 2023-24 academic year. The four positions were voted on by their SAAC peers.
"It is exciting to see a new group of student-athletes assume these prestigious roles," said director of athletics & recreation Jermaine Truax. "The leadership of the Executive Board, along with the efforts by our Student-Athlete Advisory Committee as a whole, plays a vital role in the experience of Bucknell's scholar-athletes. I look forward to seeing what this group will accomplish in the coming year."
President: Caroline McGann, Women's Swim & Dive
Caroline McGann of the women's swim & dive team was elected SAAC president and is entering her second year as an Executive Board member after previously serving as director of communications. An economics and geography major, McGann was a 2023 Academic All-Patriot League honoree and an All-Patriot League performer. She currently ranks among the top 10 in program history in two individual events and has scored 62 total points at Patriot League Swim & Dive Championships.
"I am extremely excited to step into the role as SAAC president for my senior year at Bucknell. It is a huge honor to be elected for this position because of how valuable the program is to our University. After joining the group my sophomore year and sitting on the E-Board as the director of communications this past year, I have definitely built up my leadership skills, abilities, and confidence. Our new E-Board is full of great leaders, and we have so much already in the works for next year to continue connecting the academic and athletic communities together. It's definitely going to be a great year for SAAC. Go Bison!"
Vice President: Ruben Anderson, Football
Ruben Anderson was named the SAAC vice president. Anderson has served as the primary punter for the football team over the last three seasons and has improved his numbers each year. In 2022, Anderson averaged 40.3 yards per attempt, landing 19 punts inside the 20-yard line and booting nine punts of 50-plus yards. A mechanical engineering major, Anderson was named to the Patriot Academic Honor Roll following the spring 2021 season. He's also been involved at the Teaching and Learning Center as well as with Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
"I am excited to have been chosen as next year's SAAC VP and look forward to continuing the great work done thus far," Anderson said.
Director of Communications: Allie Lopez, Volleyball
Allie Lopez, a member of the Bison volleyball team, was chosen as the next SAAC director of communications. A regular starter at middle blocker throughout her career, Lopez has led the team in blocks over the last two seasons and helped the Bison reach the Patriot League Tournament last fall. As an English/creative writing and animal behavior major, Lopez is a two-year member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.
"I've loved my time being a member of SAAC throughout my Bucknell career, and I'm so excited to get even more involved now that I'm on the Executive Board," Lopez said.
Director of Initiatives: Jack Roberto, Men's Soccer
Jack Roberto, a sophomore midfielder on the men's soccer team, was selected as SAAC's director of initiatives. He's a two-time member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll and was a 2022 Academic All-District Team honoree. Roberto has seen action in 22 games over his career and made nine starts as a midfielder.
"I am extremely grateful and appreciative to be chosen for this position with the support of my peers. I look forward to further developing fruitful relationships both on campus and within the local community alongside some very dedicated, hardworking, and overall great people," Roberto said.
