About the Bison
- After playing five tournaments in the fall and five more in the spring, the Bucknell women's golf team is set to tee it up at the Patriot League Championship this weekend. The three-day, 54-hole event is hosted by associate member Richmond at Independence GC.
- Bucknell's average team score for the full season is 316.3, with a low round of 296 at the Bucknell Invitational in September. That score tied the school record and propelled the Bison to the team title.
- The Bison are coming off a sixth-place finish at the Navy Spring Invitational last weekend. Freshman Paige Richter had a terrific performance, shooting 72-74 for a 2-over total of 146, good for a fourth-place finish.
- Richter appeared in four spring events and was the low Bison in all four. She posted scores in the 70s in eight of her nine spring rounds and leads the team with a 76.4 scoring average. Over the full season, Richter has no scores higher than 80 and a 76.6 average.
- Richter will be joined by Morgan Sohosky, Cristina Canales, Viveka Kurup, Tatum McKelvey, and Tara Thomas in the lineup. The Patriot League Championship uses a play-6/count-4 format.
- Richter, Sohosky, and Kurup will all be making their PL Championship debuts. This will be the third appearance for Canales, who finished a Bucknell-best T-11th in 2021 and 29th last season. McKelvey will also be playing in the event for the third time. She was T-15th in 2021 and 28th last season. Thomas was the low Bison as a freshman last year in Annapolis with a T-18th finish.
- Sohosky was the team's low player two weeks ago at the St. John's Invitational, finishing 20th with rounds of 79-75.
- This is the 25th season for the Bison women's golf program, which debuted in 1998-99. Laura Tyler-Cook is the fourth head coach in team history, following Brad Tufts, Kevin Jamieson, and Lisa Francisco.  Â
- The Patriot League began sponsoring women's golf in 2013, and this will be the 10th Patriot League Women's Golf Championship.Â
- Bucknell won the second edition in 2014, posting 930 (313-306-311) at Saucon Valley Country Club.Â
- Lehigh, Bucknell, Boston University, and Richmond accounted for four different champions in the first four years of the championship, and then Richmond repeated in both 2017 and 2018. Boston University won again in 2019, and after the 2020 event was canceled due to COVID-19, Navy captured its first Patriot League title at Saucon Valley CC in 2021.
- Boston University is the defending champion. The Terriers shot 928 over 54 holes at the U.S. Naval Academy GC. Â Â
- Bucknell placed fifth a year ago with rounds of 336-317-330. Tara Thomas was the low Bison with a 243 (85-81-77). Sun Woo Jeon turned in the team's low round of the weekend with a second-round 74.
- Bucknell's best individual finish in a Patriot League Championship was Bridget Wilcox's runner-up placement in the inaugural event in 2013. Other top-five finishes include Lauren Bernard (3rd, 2014), Wilcox (4th, 2014), Kasha Scott (T-5th, 2014), Emily Larson (T-4th, 2016), and Katie Childers (5th, 2018).Â
- The low PLC round by a Bucknell player is a 72 by Childers in the second round of the 2019 championship at Independence GC. The Bison placed fifth on that course with rounds of 323-314-312.
