FOX CHAPEL, Pa. – Blake Wisdom made four birdies and an eagle on the way to a 4-under-par 67 on Tuesday, and he helped the Bucknell men's golf team vault three places into a fifth-place finish at the RedHawk Intercollegiate at the Pittsburgh Field Club.
Bucknell posted a 290 team score in the final round, its best of the tournament, and finished with an 884 total for 54 holes. Marquette won the event with an 872 total, with Richmond four shots back after leading the field with a 3-under 281 on Tuesday. Dayton (877), Toledo (881), and Bucknell rounded out the top five in a strong 14-team field.
The Bison edged George Washington and North Dakota State by one shot and Minnesota by two, with host Miami (Ohio) (888), Bowling Green (894), Loyola Maryland (902), Ohio (908), Oakland (910), and Eastern Kentucky (935) rounding out the field.
After opening with rounds of 72 and 75 in very difficult scoring conditions on Monday, Wisdom had it going in the final round. His 67 was the best in the field, and he jumped 14 places from T-17th to solo third. It was his second 67 of the spring and his fourth of the 2022-23 season. That score is one off his career best and two shy of the school record.
Wisdom got his round going with an eagle on the par-5 third hole and then added a birdie at No. 5. After nine straight pars, he birdied 15 and 17 to get to 5-under. His only bogey of the day came at the long par-13 18th, which played as the third-hardest hole in the tournament, yielding only seven birdies with 124 bogeys or worse.
Wisdom finished just two shots behind individual co-leaders Cole Ekert of Richmond and Nate Adams of North Dakota State, who both finished at 1-under 212.
Wisdom had plenty of support in the final round. Andres Barraza made five birdies on the way to a 72, and Jackson Bussell eagled the par-5 15th hole en route to a 73. James Key and Jack Gardner both shot 78.
Bucknell has one more tournament prior to the Patriot League Championship. The Bison will play at Colgate's Upstate Battle this Saturday and Sunday at Seven Oaks GC.
