SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Bucknell men's tennis team saw its 12-match winning streak come to an end at the hands of Boston University on Saturday at Drumlins Tennis Club. The Terriers won by a 4-0 count, taking the doubles point and then the first three singles matches to reach a conclusion.
A 5-2 win over Drexel on Feb. 5 started Bucknell's run, and it grew into the fifth-longest winning streak in school history. Bucknell won 23 straight bridging the 1970 and 1971 seasons, and the team has also seen 15-match streaks in 1926/1927, 1937/1938, and 1998.
Bucknell had claimed the doubles point in 13 straight dual matches, but that streak also ended on Saturday when the Terriers (9-10, 1-1 PL) won in the No. 2 and 3 spot. Harrison Gold and Brendan McDonald held a 5-2 lead at No. 1 when the point was clinched.
Alejandro Licea at No. 3 and Cole Knutsen at No. 4 won in straight sets to bring the Terriers to the brink of victory, and Dion Loutas cliched it with a three-set win on Court 1.
Now 12-5 overall and 2-1 in the Patriot League, the Bison return to action next Saturday at home against Navy at 1 p.m.
