LEWISBURG, Pa. – Freshman Amar Tahirovic teamed with senior Michael Owen to clinch the doubles point and then returned for a straight-set win at No. 1 singles to help the Bucknell men's tennis team run past Marist 6-1 on Sunday at the Varsity Tennis Courts. It was the ninth win in a row for the Bison, who are now 9-4 on the season.
Junior Tim Zelikovsky and freshman Brendan McDonald made quick work of Tomas Gomez and Paolo Flores at No. 3 doubles, winning 6-1. Tahirovic and Owen followed with a 6-4 win at No. 2, and the Bison claimed the doubles point for the 10th straight match.
Tahirovic defeated Christian Mills 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, and Harrison Gold, Nick Mueller, Owen, and Zelikovsky followed down the lineup with straight-set wins. Flores gave the Red Foxes a consolation point with a three-set win over McDonald in the No. 6 spot.
Tahirovic improved to 4-1 in the No. 1 spot in dual matches and won his team-best 17th singles match on the season, including fall tournament play. McDonald continued his stellar doubles play, improving to 20-3 with all partners, including 11-1 in duals.
Bucknell is now a combined 24-9 in doubles and 44-31 in singles this spring.
The Bison will next be in action during Spring Break week in California. They will visit UC Santa Cruz on Monday, March 13 and then travel to Saint Mary's two days later.
