SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Tim Zelikovsky's straight-set win over Toi Kobayashi at No. 4 singles clinched the Bucknell men's tennis team's eighth victory in a row, a 5-2 verdict over Fordham on Saturday afternoon at the Central PA Tennis Center.
Now 8-4 on the season, Bucknell's winning streak is its longest since 1998, when the Bison began the year with 15 straight wins on the way to a 19-2 season.
Bucknell used the same doubles lineup as in Friday's Patriot League win over Loyola, and once again the Bison took all three matches. Harrison Gold and Brendan McDonald improved to 7-0 at No. 1 doubles with a 6-1 win, and the tandems of Oscar Bain Moreno de Vega/Amar Tahirovic and Nick Mueller/Michael Owen both won by 6-4 margins.
The Bison are now 22-9 in doubles in dual matches this spring, and they have claimed the doubles point in nine in a row.
Bucknell won the middle four singles flights, with Mueller setting the tone with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Nicholas Kanazirev at No. 2. McDonald and Zelikovsky also won in straight sets to clinch the team victory, and Owen came back after losing a first-set tiebreaker to win his No. 3 singles match from Dhillon Virdee-Oakley.
Fordham's Quinn Fender won at No. 1 singles, taking both the second and third sets in tiebreakers against Gold.
Bucknell is slated to play its first outdoor match of the season on Sunday, hosting Marist at 12:30 p.m. at the Varsity Tennis Courts.
