RESULTS
LA JOLLA, Calif. – The Bucknell men's golf team closed out the UC San Diego Invitational with a 1-under-par 287, its third straight red number, and finished at 4-under 860 for the 54-hole tournament at the famed Torrey Pines Golf Club.
Bucknell's 860 total was the fifth-best 54-hole score in team history, but up against a talented field comprised mainly of West Coast squads, that mark was good for a T-11th finish alongside Hawaii.
Blake Wisdom posted a 3-under 69 in Tuesday's final round and finished T-19th on the individual leaderboard with a 4-under 212 (73-70-69). Jackson Bussell (73-72-71) and Andres Barraza (71-73-72) both finished at even-par 216.
The Bison made 43 birdies and an eagle over 36 holes on Monday, and they added nine more birdies and an eagle from Bussell at the par-5 ninth hole in the final round. Wisdom made four of those birdies in round three, including three in a five-hole span that got him to 4-under on the day. His only bogey came on his next-to-last hole (No. 13) and dropped him back to -3.
Jack Gardner also had a good week for the Bison playing as an individual. He followed his second-round 68 with a 73 in the final round.
Oklahoma Christian, the third-ranked team in the Division II ranks, put together a 32-under 832 total to edge out Seattle by two shots for the team title. CSU Northridge was third at 839, followed by UC Santa Barbara (847) and Utah State (847).
Eirik Thomassen of CSU Northridge ran away with the individual title with a 20-under 196 after rounds of 68-63-65. After making nine birdies in the second round, he made five more along with an ace at No. 15 on Tuesday. Nathan Cogswell of Seattle finished second at 14-under (68-68-66).
The Bison are back in action on Apr. 10-11 at the Wildcat Invitational, hosted by Villanova at Radnor Valley Country Club.
