Kates Awarded Bison of the Week after Breaking School Record in High Jump

LEWISBURG, Pa.- Abby Kates was named Bison of the Week on Monday after her record-breaking performance at the Jim Taylor Invitational. Kates smashed the old outdoor school record for the high jump with a leap of 5-7 ¾. Her jump placed her first in the event.

Kates's mark of 5-7 ¾ broke the old record of 5-7 ¼ set by Taylor O'Brien. Kates's previous best record was 5-6 ½ registered in 2021. Her prior personal best jump had her tied for sixth in Bucknell history with Karen Middleton and Alex Butz.

Kates's school record continues her success in the high jump, which she achieved in the indoor season, where she leaped to fourth place all-time on a jump of 5-7. She also placed eighth in the event at the 2023 ECAC Indoor Championships.

She joins Karen Hull and Meghan Quinn as the third women's track & field athlete named Bison of the Week during the 2022-23 year.

On Tuesday, March 28, Kates was awarded the Patriot League Women's Field Athlete of the Week.

Kates and the Bison return to action this Friday at the prestigious Colonial Relays.
