Women's Tennis Tops St. Bonaventure 5-2 for Second Straight Win

OLEAN, N.Y. – The Bucknell women's tennis team swept the doubles point and won four of six in singles to defeat St. Bonaventure 5-2 and secure its second straight victory on Saturday.
Anna Lajos won 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 over Alexandra Jansson in the top single spot, and Tyne Miller joined Abby Platt in a tight 7-5 win over the Bonnies' top tandem of Isabella Venter and Anastasia Gubanova. Lajos improved to 3-2 when playing in the No. 1 position after coming back from a first-set loss.
Lajos' match gave the Bison a 3-1 lead over the Bonnies, and Platt sealed the victory with her dramatic win over Venter at No. 3 singles. The freshman came through with the tiebreaker, defeating her opponent 7-5, 7-6 (3) for her sixth win of the season.
Kate Novak's matchup with Gubanova also went to seven games in the opening set, as she won 7-5, 6-0 over the junior to earn Bucknell's first singles point.
Two of the three doubles matches went down to the wire. Tyne Miller and Platt took down Venter and Gubanova, 7-5. Later, Caroline Marcus and Mirra Manolov won the tiebreaker over Sienna Smith and Kelly Barnes.
Marcus also won her match at No. 6 singles 6-1, 6-3 over Kelly Barnes to cap the day.
Bucknell is back in action at noon on Sunday to host Coppin State at the Central PA Tennis Center in South Williamsport, Pa.
