Kates Wins Patriot League Women’s Field Athlete of the Week

LEWISBURG, Pa.- Junior jumper Abby Kates won Patriot League Women's Field Athlete of the Week for her excellent performance at the Big Apple Invitational, the league office announced Tuesday. Her honor is the first weekly award won this season by a Bucknell athlete and the first Field Athlete of the Week award for a Bucknell athlete since Delia Sipe won it on Feb. 2, 2019.
The junior from Aston, Pa., dominated the High Jump at the Ocean Breeze Track Complex. Kates finished first clearing an ECAC-qualifying height of 1.70m. Her jump is tied for second in the League. Kates was tied for tenth in the High Jump in the all-time Bucknell lists but now holds fourth place for the event. She is tied for fourth with three other Bison athletics, including teammate Karen Hull who also cleared 1.70m this season.
Karen Hull won an honorable mention for finishing first in the 60-meter hurdles at the Big Apple Invitational with an ECAC-qualifying time of 8.78, which ranks fifth in the Patriot League this season.
The Bison return to action this Friday, Feb. 17, at the Bison Tune-Up.
