LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell men's swimming & diving team saw four finishes of third place or higher and posted a new program top-10 time in the 200 freestyle relay to lead all six teams with 401 points after the first day of the Bucknell Invitational. John Gehrig posted Bucknell's first win of the meet in the 200 IM.
Gehrig's 1:47.85 in the 200 IM finals was nearly three seconds faster than his prelim time and narrowly edged second-place Noah Althoff (1:47.98) from Fordham. It was Gehrig's second year in a row winning the 200 IM at the home invitational. The Rams are currently in third place at the meet with 166 points, and Johns Hopkins trails Bucknell in second with 200.
Gehrig also swam leadoff for Bucknell's runner-up 200 freestyle relay team. Gehrig, first-years Finn Russell and Drew Greene, and fellow senior Chris Fabian combined to post a 1:21.24 to register the sixth-fastest time in school history.
Chris Kopac placed third in the 500 freestyle with a 4:31.81, and Andy Dorsel added third-place points in the 200 IM with a 1:49.93. Alex Crossing came in just behind Kopac in the 500 free, taking fourth in the A finals with a 4:31.97.
Bucknell's other relay, the 400 medley team consisting of Fabian, Noah Basista, Gehrig and Greene, grabbed fifth-place points with a 3:20.46.
Greene and Russell both made the A finals for the 50 freestyle and took seventh and eighth place, respectively. It was Fabian, however, who posted the top time for the Bison in the event with a 20.59 to win the B finals.
On the 1-meter board, first-year Jack Krug took fourth place with a 255.60 and was followed by Connor Thurston in fifth (252.65) and Jackson Vinarub in seventh (236.15).
