Volleyball Swept by American; Locked in as #4 Seed in PL Tournament

WASHINGTON, D.C.- The Bucknell Bison women's volleyball team (15-10, 11-5 PL) completed the 2023 regular season with a 3-0 loss (13-25, 21-25, 18-25) to the American Eagles (18-10, 11-5 PL). The defeat locks Bucknell into the #4 seed in the Patriot League Tournament. The Bison will host a quarterfinal game on Tuesday night against #5 seed Navy. Tijana Kostic led the Orange & Blue with ten kills. Jordan Hardy collected 15 digs to give her 1500 for her career. Catherine Jamison gathered six kills to place over 300 for the season.Â

Bucknell scored the first point, but the opening set became the American show. The Eagles ripped off a 12-2 run to establish control of the set and extended their lead to 17-6. The Bison didn't give up and used a 5-0 run to cut into the deficit. American prevented any epic comeback with a decisive 7-1 stretch. The two teams traded points, and American won the first set, 25-13.Â
The second set started evenly, with the teams tied at 4-4. The Bison then poked ahead by three points and furthered the advantage to 12-7. The lead disappeared when the Eagles undertook a 9-1 run. The Orange & Blue fought back to cut the lead to 21-19. A 3-0 American stretch gave the hometown team some breathing space. Bucknell collected two more points, but it wasn't enough. American had the 25-21 set win.Â
The final set commenced with a 1-0 Bison lead. American grabbed the advantage, and Bucknell tied it up at 5-5. An 8-3 run gave the Eagles a lead they would not relinquish. Bucknell kept fighting and cut the debt to 20-15. American essentially sealed the game with a 4-0 run. The Bison fought gamely, with Allie Lopez tallying three straight kills. A final American kill ended the set and game.Â
