BALTIMORE, Md. – John Gehrig touched the wall first in three events to score 27 points for the Bucknell men's swimming & diving team, but it wouldn't be enough as Loyola pulled out a 201-99 win at Mangione Aquatic Center Saturday.
"Loyola was prepared and had a great meet. We competed well in many place, but it was clear we need to improve more in the coming months," said head coach Dan Schinnerer.
The Greyhounds men won 11 events, including each of the first five and both relays, to hand the Bison their second defeat of the season. Along with Gehrig, Jack Krug and Alex Crossing posted victories. Bucknell also took the top two spots in the 1-meter dive and posted runner-up finishes in three events.
Gehrig captured first place in the 200 butterfly (1:49.19), the 100 butterfly (49.74) and the 200 IM (1:52.65). He also swam the final leg of Bucknell's third-place 400 freestyle relay team.
Krug's 266.70 on the 1-meter board was best among the field, and he was followed by teammate Connor Thurston in second (256.05). Thurston also placed second on the 3-meter board. Crossing won the 500 freestyle (5:40.80) and took second in the 100 frees, totaling 13 points towards the Bison effort.
Bucknell placed third in six more events, including another top-three place for Krug.
Bucknell is off over the next two weeks before returning to competition at Kinney Natatorium the first weekend of December for its three-day Invitational.
