About Bucknell
- Bucknell played the top two teams in the conference, Colgate and Army, last weekend. Bucknell defeated Colgate in an epic five-set match in Hamilton. The Bison overcame two sets to one deficit to beat the Raiders and end their 33-home court winning streak. Against Army, Bucknell won the first set 38-36 after a lengthy review overturned the apparent winning point for the Black Knights. Bucknell then cruised to a 3-1 victory. The Bison improved to 11-9 overall and 7-4 in Patriot League competition.Â
- Bucknell will play Loyola (Md.) on Friday and Navy on Saturday. Both contests will be streamed on ESPN+, and live stats will be available for both games. The links are in this article and on the Bucknell volleyball schedule page.Â
- Bucknell is 15-12 in non-conference matchups under Head Coach Tyler Hagstrom. Last season, the Bison were 7-2 in non-conference games, including a 6-0 start. That start was the best in Bucknell's history.Â
- The Bison were picked to finish fifth in the preseason poll. Reigning champion Colgate was selected to repeat as title-winners. Jordan Hardy was crowned Preseason Libero of the Year. It is the first time a Bucknell libero was awarded the honor. She led the Patriot League in digs (591), 71 more than the nearest opposition, and digs per serve (5.68). Her digs per serve mark ranked her fifth in the nation. Hardy was All-Patriot League Second Team last season.Â
- The Orange & Blue return most of their offensive and defensive prowess. Bri Frazilus, the 2022 Patriot League Rookie of the Year, totaled 293 kills to lead the team and finish fifth in the Patriot League. Senior Catherine "Cat" Jamison collected 263 kills and 277 points, both top-ten in the Patriot League. Along with the returners, the Bison welcome five newcomers to the squad.Â
- Hagstrom enters his fourth season at the helm of the Bison herd. He is joined by third-year assistant Jeremy Young and newly hired assistant coach Haylie Clark, who recently graduated from Elon after a stellar playing career. Hagstrom passed Victoria May for fourth-most career wins in school history.Â
- Jordan Hardy currently leads the Patriot League in digs per set (5.43) and ranks 6th nationally.Â
- Hardy recently moved in third all-time for career digs in Bucknell history. She now has 1,397 in her tenure.Â
- Bucknell is second nationally in digs per set (17.69).
- Caleigh O'Connell ranks fifth (567) in the circuit in assists.Â
- Sidney Shaffer is sixth (.282) in the PL for hitting percentage.Â
- Catherine Jamison continues her sensational senior season as fourth in kills (238) and points (261.5).
- Bucknell is tied for third in the PL at 7-4 with American and is about to commence a four-game homestand.Â
- The Bison swept the PL weekly awards on Oct. 24 for the first time since 2000. Jamison won Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week, and Shaffer took home Patriot League Rookie of the Week. Jamison's honor was the first time for a Bison player since 2018, and Shaffer picked up her second Rookie of the Week award.Â
- The Greyhounds are 9-12 overall and 4-7 in the PL. Loyola was beaten last weekend by American and Navy.Â
- Loyola finished 11-14 in 2022, with an 8-8 mark in Patriot League play. They fell to Colgate in the Patriot League semifinals.Â
- Lauren Link leads the squad with 212 kills, which ranks sixth in the circuit.Â
- Loyola was picked sixth in the Patriot League League preseason poll. Link was selected to the Preseason All-League Team.Â
- Alija Pittenger enters her ninth season as head coach of the Loyola program.
- Bucknell is 18-14 all-time against Loyola. Bucknell defeated the Greyhounds in Baltimore earlier this season.
- The Midshipmen are 13-6 overall and 5-5 in PL play. They swept Power Five members Maryland and Syracuse. Last weekend, Navy defeated Loyola (Md.) but were swept by American.Â
- Navy finished 16-12Â overall and 11-5 in the Patriot League in 2022. They lost in the Patriot League Championship match to Colgate.Â
- Twin sisters Jaime and Jordan Llewellyn lead the team in kills with 217 and 241. The duo are 3rd (Jordan)Â and 7th (Jamie) in the PL for kills.Â
- Navy was selected to finish third in the Patriot League Preseason Poll. Averi Miller notched Preseason Setter of the Year.Â
- Head coach Paco Labrador is in his 6th season in command. Â
- Bucknell is 23-39Â all-time against Navy. The Mids beat Bucknell in a five-set match on Sept. 29.Â
