Two Bison Doubles Teams Advance to Main Draw at ITA Regionals

RESULTS
LYNCHBURG, Va. – Two Bucknell all-sophomore doubles teams have advanced into the main draw at the ITA Atlantic Region Championships, hosted by Liberty University. The pairings of Amar Tahirovic/Brendan McDonald and Oscar Bain Moreno de Vega/Adam Stavrakas are two of the 32 tandems in the Gold Draw, and starting Saturday afternoon will play for a trip to the ITA Nationals in San Diego later this fall.
Tahirovic and McDonald secured two convincing wins on Friday. They toppled Cooper Gordon and Will Monahan of Villanova by an 8-3 count, and then they won by the same score against Javier Ruiz Medina and Karol Malirz of Delaware.
Next up is a match against VCU's Matisse Bobichon and Mathis Bondaz on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
Bain and Stavrakas recorded an 8-6 win over Jacco Arends and Alvaro Pedraza of George Mason, and then the Bison duo turned right back around and topped Georgetown's Akira Morgenstern and Derek Raskopf 8-3.
Bain and Stavrakas will next play the Morgan State tandem of Mikeal Carpenter and Niles Rachal at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Tahirovic started the day with a singles match in the Silver Draw but fell to Delaware's Malirz 6-1, 6-4.
Stavrakas won a Silver Draw consolation singles match in straight sets over Virginia Tech's Frank Thompson, 6-4, 6-0. Tim Zelikovsky also won in the consolation bracket against Penn State's Harrison Janes. Zelikovsky won the first set in a tiebreaker by a 7-2 count and took the first game in the second set before Janes retired due to injury.
