
Volleyball Drops Friday Match at Loyola, 3-1

BALTIMORE, Md. – The Bucknell volleyball team nearly erased a 2-0 deficit for a second straight match, leading 23-20 in the fourth, but the Loyola Greyhounds ended the set on a 6-1 run to win 3-1 at Reitz Arena Friday evening. With the loss, the Bison moved to 10-4 overall and 3-2 in Patriot League play while Loyola improved to 4-8 (2-3 PL).
Bri Frazilus led the team with 17 kills and 11 digs for her seventh double-double of the season. Catherine Jamison contributed 16 kills with a .314 hitting percentage. Libero Jordan Hardy led all players with 27 digs.
Bucknell hit .182 as a team compared to Loyola's .194. Loyola also held a 9-6 advantage in blocks and a 6-2 advantage in service aces.
Bucknell stuck with Loyola through the early portions of the opening set, but a 4-0 Greyhounds run made it 13-8, and the Bison never got closer than four the rest of the way. Loyola hit a match-high .351 in the opening frame, and senior Cecylia Guy posted three block assists.
Loyola never trailed in the second and opened the set by taking seven of the first eight points. A 4-0 Bison run cut the deficit to 12-10, but Bucknell was never able to fully recover as Loyola won it 25-18 to go up 2-0 in the match. Jamison posted six kills on 12 attacks and no errors in the second, but the Greyhounds were above a .300 hitting percentage once again.
The Bison were at their best in the third, hitting .290 and posting three blocks. Frazilus was also excellent in the third, posting seven kills on 12 attacks and two errors. After falling behind 6-1 and trailing throughout the first half, the Bison put together a 5-0 run to take the lead a 25-13. They later rattled off four points in a row to go up 22-16 and kept the match alive with a 15-19 win.
Bucknell maintained its momentum into the fourth set and opened on a 6-1 run that included three Jamison kills. The two teams sat tied at 20-20 before Bucknell collected three points in a row and was two away from forcing the fifth. Loyola regained the lead at 24-23 with four unanswered and would give up just one more point on a service error before ending things with a 26-24 score in the fourth.
Valentina Feigl led Bucknell with four block assists and one block solo, and Caleigh O'Connell provided a team-high 21 assists.
Next, Bucknell heads to Washington, D.C. to take on American at Bender Arena at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1.
