Bucknell at a Glance
- The Bison are off to a strong start this fall, with a combined 22-14 singles record and 7-7 doubles record at the Bucknell Invitational and West Point Invitational. This week they head to Baltimore for the Loyola Women's Invitational. It was scheduled to be a three-day, point-of-compass tournament featuring two-player mini groups, but the event was shortened to Friday only due to the potential impact of Hurricane Ian over the weekend.
- Bucknell's two-person teams at Loyola will be Anna Lajos/Abby Platt, Kate Novak/Mirra Manolov, Whitney King/Tyne Miller, and Madi Sebulsky/Caroline Marcus.
- Bucknell faced a large field and stiff competition at West Point last weekend but came away with a combined 10-7 singles record. Four of the team's six singles players won at least one match in the main draw, and the two who did not went on to make runs in the consolation bracket.
- At A Singles, Lajos dropped her first-round match but then won twice to reach the consolation semifinals. At E Singles, Sebulsky won her first two matches before losing a tight one in the semifinals, and Novak bounced back from a first-round loss to win three straight and claim the consolation title.
- Miller and Platt at B Singles and Manolov at D Singles also won first-round matches. The freshmen Platt and Manolov both went to three sets in the round of 16.
- Platt and King won their first two matches at A Doubles before being eliminated in the quarterfinals by a duo from Syracuse that earned an NCAA Tournament bid last spring.
- Lajos leads the team with five singles wins on the season, while Manolov and Miller have four each.
- Tammy Cecchini's women's team graduated last year's No. 1 player Daniela Bellini, who was a First Team All-Patriot League and Academic All-Patriot League honoree last season.
- The Bison did return six players from last season but have no seniors on the team. Miller, Novak, and Sebulsky are the team leaders from the junior class.
- Bucknell will wrap up the fall season with three dual matches in the state of Michigan on Oct. 14-15. The Bison will visit Davenport, Ferris State, and Grand Valley State.
