BALTIMORE, Md. – The Bucknell women's tennis team was scheduled to compete at the three-day Loyola Invitational this weekend. The tournament was shortened to a single day with inclement weather moving into the area, and then Friday's play was ultimately halted as the rain arrived in the evening.
Six Bison were in action in a tournament that saw two-player teams competing in best-of-three series. Each of Bucknell's four tandems got their first-round series in as well as their second-round doubles matches before play was stopped.
The highlight of the day was Anna Lajos and Abby Platt sweeping their opponents from Delaware State in the first round. The Bison duo blanked Lucia Corte and Basma Raja 6-0 in doubles, and then Lajos defeated Corte 8-4 and Platt beat Raja 8-0 in singles.
Caroline Marcus defeated Loyola's Taylor Kuncl 8-3 in her series with partner Kate Novak, but the Greyhounds took the other two matches. Later in the day, Marcus paired up with Mirra Manolov for 6-2 doubles win over Paraskevi Briegel and Alexandra Waldman.
Tyne Miller and Whitney King dropped their first-round series to Delaware State but came back to beat Lafayette's Olivia Boeckman and Melanie Sparhawk 6-2 in doubles in the consolation quarterfinals before play was stopped.
Bucknell will wrap up the fall season with three dual matches in the state of Michigan on Oct. 14-15. The Bison will visit Davenport, Ferris State, and Grand Valley State.
