1GRANDVILLE, Mich. – Tyne Miller won a third-set tiebreaker at No. 2 singles to give the Bucknell women's tennis team a come-from-behind 4-3 win over Davenport on Friday night at Premier Athletic and Tennis Club. Playing their first of three weekend dual matches in Michigan, the Bison trailed 3-1 before claiming each of the final three matches on the courts.
After the Panthers claimed the doubles point, Whitney King evened things up with a straight-set win over Willemien Coetzee at No. 3 singles. Davenport moved to the brink of winning the dual by taking fourth and fifth singles, but the Bison fought back.
Caroline Marcus won a first-set tiebreaker by a 9-7 count over Louise Hosking and then took the second set 6-4 to post a victory on Court 6.
In the top two spots in the lineup, Anna Lajos and Miller were mired in tough three-set matches. After dropping the first set to Amy Bloch at No. 1, Lajos took the second set in a tiebreaker and then rolled 6-1 in the third.
On Court 2, Miller and Skye Vandeleur split the first two sets and needed a tiebreaker to decide the third. Miller prevailed 7-3 in the tiebreak to deliver the dual for the Bison.
King and Lajos were two-time winners on the evening, as they also claimed their No. 1 doubles match, 6-4 over Coetzee and Hermon Mikael.
The Bison will have two more dual matches against Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponents on Saturday. First up is Grand Valley State at 10 a.m., followed by Ferris State at the GVSU Courts at 2 p.m.
