Bucknell at a Glance
- After competing at three tournaments in the month of September, the Bison women's tennis squad closes out the fall portion of the schedule with three dual matches in the state of Michigan against teams from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Tammy Cecchini's squad will go up against Davenport on Friday, followed by matches against Grand Valley State and Ferris State on GVSU's courts on Saturday.
- The Bison are enjoying a strong fall season, with a combined 26-16 singles record and 10-9 doubles record at events hosted by Bucknell, Army, and Loyola.
- Bucknell's last action came on Sept. 30 at the Loyola Invitational. It was scheduled to be a three-day event, but inclement weather on Saturday and Sunday reduced it to a one-day affair. It was still a productive day, as Whitney King, Caroline Marcus, Anna Lajos, and Abby Platt all won singles matches, and the doubles teams of Lajos/Platt, King/Tyne Miller, and Marcus/Mirra Manolov were also victorious.
- Platt barely broke a sweat, winning her singles match 8-0 and her doubles tilt alongside Lajos 6-0.
- Lajos leads the team with six singles wins on the season, while Manolov, Platt, and Miller have four each.
- Platt has a team-best 5-2 doubles record, while King is 4-2.
- Tammy Cecchini's women's team graduated last year's No. 1 player Daniela Bellini, who was a First Team All-Patriot League and Academic All-Patriot League honoree last season.
- The Bison did return six players from last season but have no seniors on the team. Miller, Novak, and Sebulsky are the team leaders from the junior class.
- Davenport has competed in two tournaments and two dual matches this fall. The Panthers have dual wins over Cornerstone (5-2) and Alma (6-0). They returned their top player from last year in Willemien Coetzee, who went 12-12 at No. 1 singles and 12-13 at No. 1 doubles.
- Grand Valley state is one of the top programs in the GLIAC. The Lakers went 15-7 overall and 7-1 in the GLIAC last season, and they advanced to the second round of the NCAA regionals. Grand Valley State recently hosted the ITA Midwest Regional Tournament, and freshman Ann Soteras won six straight matches to claim the B Singles title. The Spaniard is 9-0 to start her career. Â Â
- Ferris State has also competed in both Davenport's tournament and the ITA Regionals, and the Bulldogs also have a 6-1 dual-match win over Lawrence Tech. Ferris State is coming off a 10-8 season that included a 5-4 record in the GLIAC. First Team All-GLIAC selection Sophie Daavettila and Second Team pick Parker Nolan are both back this season.
- This weekend's action in Michigan concludes the fall season. The Bison kick off a 21-match spring campaign on Jan. 21 at Rutgers.
