BOSTON – Samuel Whittaker posted another impressive outing in a competitive field at the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown on Friday afternoon, taking 13th at the meet (24:22) in a field of 126 runners.

Whittaker helped the Bison to a top-ten finish on the day on the 8K course, with Bucknell finishing tenth overall (269) in a competitive field of 15 that included three ranked teams in No. 12 Harvard, No. 18 Gonzaga, and No. 19 Syracuse.
"Whittaker was fantastic and put himself with the lead group right from the start," said head coach Kevin Donner. "This race will establish him as a top threat in the Patriot League, and even the Mid-Atlantic Regional. Although we had a very small spread between our numbers 2-7, that group just didn't position themselves early enough in the race, and this type of competitive field will not come back when that happens. We need this pack to be approximately 15-25 seconds faster, and 5-10 of those seconds can be attributed to a poor start. With that said, all of our guys did move up nicely through the race which shows promise for the future."
The senior crossed the line 30 seconds behind Alexander Korczynski of Northeastern (23:52), the individual champion. Virginia (20) won the meet, with the Cavaliers boasting five of the top six places for its scoring runners, as well as the eighth and ninth-place finishers.
Bobby Lynam was next up for the Bison, taking 58th overall (25:32). Noah Martin (63rd, 25:43), Peter Sorensen (67th, 25:51), and Grayson Crockett (68th, 25:52) rounded out Bucknell's scoring runners. Domenic Campagna (70th) and Ben Santos (74th) served as Bucknell's displacing runners at the meet.
Trent Dinant (87th), Jeffrey Gibbs (101st), and Henry Didden (113th) also competed for the Bison on the day.
Bucknell will now have an extended break before returning to competition at the Fordham Invite on Friday, October 14.
