Women’s Tennis Off to Strong Start at Bucknell Invitational

RESULTS
LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell women's tennis team made its 2022-23 debut by going 5-1 in singles and 3-1 in doubles on Friday on the opening day of the Bucknell Invitational.
Freshmen Abby Platt and Mirra Manolov both picked up their first collegiate victories, and all five Bison singles wins came in straight sets.
Junior Tyne Miller posted Bucknell's first win of the day, a commanding 6-1, 6-1 verdict over Valeria Vinces of Saint Francis (Pa.) in the A Singles flight. Also at A Singles, Platt won 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 over Mount St. Mary's Isabella Pescatore, and sophomore Anna Lajos dispatched Mount St. Mary's Amber Policare 6-2, 6-1.
Manolov and junior Madi Sebulsky both posted wins in the B Singles flight. Manolov's first career win was a 6-1, 6-1 defeat of Sydney Tamondong of Saint Francis. Sebulsky topped Mallory Thomas of the Red Flash 6-4, 6-4.
All five singles winners are on to the quarterfinals.
In doubles action, Miller and Platt defeated Lafayette's Halle DeNardo and Paras Briegel by a 6-1 count in the A flight. At B Doubles, sophomores Whitney King and Caroline Marcus blanked Mallory Thomas and Marie Discini, 6-0, and Manolov and junior Kate Novak also moved on in the winner's bracket.
Play resumes on Saturday at 9 a.m., with one round of singles and two rounds of doubles on the agenda.
