Manolov Into B Singles Final, Doubles Tandem Places Third on Day 2 of Bucknell Invitational

RESULTS

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Freshman Mirra Manolov won two more singles matches in straight sets to advance to the final in the B Singles flight, as the Bison women's tennis team continued play at the Bucknell Invitational on Saturday.

After winning her first collegiate match on Friday, Manolov defeated two players from Patriot League rival Lafayette on Saturday. She raced past Layla Drotar 6-2, 6-1, then bean Ally Waldman 6-2, 6-4. Earlier in the day, Waldman defeated Bucknell's Madi Sebulsky in a three-setter.

Manolov will now play Adriana Barney of Mount St. Mary's in the B Singles final on Sunday. Barney has dropped only one set on the way to the final, that coming against Bucknell's Kate Novak in the first round.

At A Singles, Tyne Miller and Anna Lajos both won identical 6-4, 6-1 quarterfinal matches on Saturday, but both were knocked out of the main draw in the semis. Lajos came up just short in a marathon match against Saint Francis' Kelly Dowuona, falling 6-3, 6-7 (6), 10-8.

Miller and Abby Platt secured third place in the A Doubles flight. After falling in the semifinals, the duo came back to beat Victoria Papadopoulous and Shirley Liang 6-2 in the third-place match.

The tournament wraps up Sunday with the conclusion of singles play, starting at 9 a.m. at the Varsity Tennis Courts.
