Bucknell Men's Water Polo Opens 2022 at Navy Invite

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell University men's water polo team is set to open its season this weekend at the Navy Invite with four games in Annapolis.

Bucknell Men's Water Polo 2022 Season Preview

Bucknell, coming off a 13-12 season in 2021, will look to get off to a fast start that features three first-time matchups in Cal Lutheran, Mt. San Antonio, and Biola. The Bison were scheduled to play Biola during the Julian Fraser Memorial in 2021, but did not end up participating in the tournament that season.
Bucknell has a long series history with the Gaels, and currently owns a 27-16 record in the all-time series. The Bison faced Iona in the second game of the Navy Open last season, taking a 16-11 win. Andu Vlasceanu netted four times in the win, while Matt Ryckman and Shay Gillearn each opened their Bucknell accounts with a goal in that game.
The Bison went 2-2 in last year's edition of the Navy Open, falling to California and UC Davis while taking wins over Salem and Iona.
Bucknell has managed at least a .500 winning percentage in each of its past opening weekends dating to the 2017 season.
After this weekend, the Bison will travel to the Princeton Invite for three games on September 10-11.
