BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Bucknell's Daniela Bellini was selected as the Patriot League Tennis Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday morning.
The senior captain went 2-0 at both first singles and first doubles to help the Bison women's tennis team secure commanding victories over rival Lehigh (6-1) and Colgate (4-0).
Against the Mountain Hawks, Bellini was a 6-1, 6-3 victor over Hamsa Javagal. She also teamed with first-year standout Whitney King for a 6-0 shutout of Javagal and Junmoke James.
Bellini was equally impactful in Bucknell's whitewashing of the Raiders. She dispatched Addie Eklund, 6-0, 6-4, and partnered with King for a 6-2 decision over Eklund and Jordan Ben-Shmuel.
With her twin triumphs, Bellini remained unbeaten in Patriot League singles action at 3-0. She and King also moved to a sterling 19-3 at first doubles on the season.
This is Bellini's second career Patriot League Tennis Player of the Week nod. She was previously recognized on March 5, 2019 for helping the Bison vault to 8-0 in dual match competition with a 6-1 victory over Colgate. During that match, she defeated All-Patriot League selection MacKenzie Deeter, 7-5, 6-1, on the top singles court and teamed with Sofia Ayuso for a 5-2 decision at second doubles.
Bellini is the second Bison to capture Patriot League Tennis Player of the Week honors this season. Doubles partner King earned this award on Feb. 15 for her performance during the Bison's 2-0 weekend against Seton Hall (4-2) and Marist (5-0).
Bellini and the Bison continue Patriot League action this weekend with away matches at Lafayette (April 9 at 10 a.m.) and Loyola (April 10 at 11 a.m.).
