LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell women's track & field senior Michaela Bracken has been named Bison Athlete of the Week following her outstanding showing at the Bucknell Team Challenge on Saturday. Bracken, who also earned the Bison of the Week accolade in December, posted a pair of fantastic finishes in the high jump and the 400 hurdles at Bucknell's final home event of the season.
The Vintondale, Pa. native moved up on Bucknell's all-time performance lists in both events by running a 1:00.98 in the 400 hurdles and clearing 5-7 in the high jump. Her hurdles time was the third best ever by a Bison, and her high jump mark ranks second behind Taylor O'Brien's 5-7.25 record set in 2019.
Bracken previously ranked fifth in the 400 hurdles and beat her previous best by .49 seconds. She hadn't competed in the high jump since the indoor Patriot League championships in February when she tied the school record with a 5-8.
Bracken earned Bison of the Week honors in the first week of December when she broke the school's pentathlon record at the Bison Opener. On Monday, she was named the 2022 Bryan-Humphreys Award winner at the Bucknell Athletics Senior Awards Banquet for exhibiting exceptional versatility within her sport. She became the seventh women's track & field athlete to earn the award.
The Bucknell women's track & field team is in its final week of competition before the 2022 outdoor Patriot League championships. The Bison will be taking part in both the Penn Relays and the Bloomsburg Maroon & Gold Invite on Thursday and Friday.
