Bucknell's Tarry Earns Weekly Awards
4/18/2022 1:00:00 PM | Men's Lacrosse
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Bucknell's Alston Tarry was selected as the Patriot League GEICO Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
In addition, the senior attackman was honored as the Bison Athlete of the Week. These are the first two weekly awards of his collegiate career.
Tarry registered a school-record 12 points on equal totals of goals and assists to propel the Bucknell men's lacrosse team to a 23-7 victory over Holy Cross. He broke the school standard of 11 that was held by Pete von Hoffmann (1979 vs. Penn State), Matt Fraser (1980 vs. Lafayette), Chris Cara (2004 vs. Lafayette), Billy Eisenreich (2012 vs. Robert Morris) and Will Yorke (2020 vs. Marist); notably, von Hoffmann, Cara and Eisenreich all captured All-America laurels the year of their record-setting performance.
Tarry's 12 points represented the second-highest total posted by a NCAA Division I player in a single game during the 2022 campaign. His performance also vaulted his career points total to 133, which leaves him 10 shy of cracking the Bison's career top-10 list in this statistical category.
Tarry is the second Bison to be recognized as the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week this season, joining freshman standout Connor Davis. Davis was honored with this award, as well as his first of a Patriot League record five Rookie of the Week nods, following his six-goal outing in Bucknell's season-opening victory at Mercer.
Tarry is the third men's lacrosse player to be selected as the Bison Athlete of the Week this school year, joining Davis and freshman goalie Rich O'Halloran. Davis earned this award after the Mercer game; O'Halloran captured it after turning aside 14 of 20 shots sent on net (.700 save percentage) during Bucknell's 14-6 win over Colgate.
Tarry and the Bison return to action on Friday at 7:30 p.m. with their Senior Night game against Lafayette. Tarry is one of 12 seniors who will be honored, joining Matthew Barkauskas, Nick Crovatto, Reid Delanois, Frankie Higgins, Jared Hodell, Brenden Lundy, Travis Talarico, Zach Tucker, Jack Van Slyke, Harry Wellford and Drew Wellington.
